Our Tribe
At Wave Native, we believe surfing is more than just a sport—it’s a return to something ancient, something instinctive - a rhythm, a pull, a calling. For those who answer that call, the ocean becomes home and the wave becomes the teacher. Surfing becomes part of who you are.
Wave Native was born from this philosophy.
Founded by Paul Spiers—a Kiwi of both European and Māori descent—Wave Native was established on the opposite side of the world, while Paul was living in the UK and longing for the ocean that was at the heart of his childhood. The brand began as a way to stay connected to the salt, soul, and spirit of Aotearoa, and quickly evolved into a mission: to create surf wear that honours culture, protects nature, and tells a story.
Our designs are infused with the influence of pacific culture, drawing inspiration from traditional patterns, symbolism, and the storytelling woven into New Zealand’s landscapes and waves. Every piece is a tribute—to our roots, our respect for the ocean, and to the raw spirit in every surfer.
But culture means nothing without care. That's why all Wave Native clothing is made in certified fair-trade factories using sustainable, low-impact materials. From design to delivery, we aim to tread lightly, act ethically, and give back to the communities and environments that inspire us.
Wave Native is not just about what you wear. It’s about where you come from, what you stand for, and where the waves might take you.
